The Thomas Edison Center at Menlo Park

This marks my initial blog using the title "What's Up New Jersey?" If you were a follower of my previous writings, I had been writing under my true name of Diane Zoller-Ciatto or pen name of JerseyNana. Whether you followed me on Examiner, Yahoo!, Associated Content, Knoji, Hub Pages. or any other site, I truly hope you follow my new blog.

I will begin by telling you a bit about my New Jersey life. I was born in a Jersey City hospital where nearly everyone from there and the near vicinity got their start. It was called the Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital and myself, my hubby and both my children were born there. It is believed that Frank Sinatra flew his pregnant wife Nancy there from California to give birth to their first child.

Jersey City has become a booming suburb of New York City with thousands of commuters a day traveling via bus, train, ferry and some lucky ones even get a limo ride to work. Actually, last week, the news featured a guy who jet-skis across the Hudson River to New York City.

The landscape of Jersey City has changed a lot since I moved from there to Edison in 2000. Come visit Edison featuring the Thomas Edison Center at Menlo Park.  Public hours are Thursday – Saturday 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, large group tours are available on additional days, when available. It offers an escorted tour of approximately fifty minutes where you can listen to 100+ year old Edison Phonographs and see pictures of Edison in his workshop where he patented over a hundred inventions and came to be known as "The Wizard of Menlo Park."

For teachers, The Thomas Edison Center at Menlo Park provides school tours designed for students in grades PreK-12.  All tours will be tailored appropriately for each grade level.

The address is 37 Christie Street, Edison, NJ 08820 and phone is 732-549-3299.
